On June 21, 2021, Oak Point City Council adopted a Resolution 2021-06-018R to appoint 16 members to a Home-Rule Charter Commission to study, draft, and propose a Home-Rule Charter for submission to the eligible voters of the City of Oak Point at a Special Election. The Commission held their first meeting on August 4, 2021 and over the course of the next 10 months, they worked diligently to create the proposed Home-Rule Charter. At the May 18, 2022 City Council Meeting, the Oak Point City Council received the proposed Home-Rule Charter and adopted Ordinance 2022-05-560 ordering a Special Election for Tuesday, November 8, 2022. If you are registered to vote in the City of Oak Point, you will receive a mailed copy of the proposed Home-Rule Charter at least 30 days prior to the election per Texas Local Government Code §9.003 (b).
On November 8, 2022, voters approved the Home Rule Charter, and it was officially adopted by the Oak Point City Council on November 21, 2022.
