Animal Licensing Requirements

Household Pets

Household pets include dogs, cats, or any other animal strongly susceptible to rabies.

License Required

Any person owning, keeping, or maintaining a household pet of more than four months in age within the City of Oak Point must secure a license for the pet from the City.  Prior to the issuance of the license, the owner or person in charge of the pet must present a certificate from a licensed veterinarian that such animal has been vaccinated for rabies not more than one year prior to the date of application for the license.

Vaccination Tag for Dogs

All dogs that are over four months in age and kept within the City shall wear a collar or harness to which shall be attached the tag issued with the above referenced license. In addition, the collar or harness shall include a metal tag issued by a state licensed veterinarian attesting to the fact that such dog has been vaccinated for rabies within the calendar year.

License Fees

License fees are $15 unless the cat or dog being registered has been neutered or spayed and proof of such surgical sterilization is provided.  The license fee for neutered or spayed animals is $5. The registration is valid for one calendar year (January 1st to December 31st).

Horses

License Required

Any person owning, keeping, or maintaining a horse within the City of Oak Point must secure a license for the horse from the City. Prior to the issuance of the license, the owner or person in charge of the horse must present a certificate from a licensed veterinarian that the horse is vaccinated for equine infectious anemia not more than one year prior to the date of application for the license.

License Fees

There are no fees to register a horse. The registration is valid for one calendar year.
